KARACHI: Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram escaped a gun attack triggered by a road rage incident in Karachi on Wednesday. The incident took place while he was driving his car towards the National Stadium where he is training the budding pacers in a 12-day fast-bowling camp.

According to Wasim, he was on his way to the stadium when a car hit him from behind and he asked the errant driver to pull up so that he could check how much damage was done to his Mercedes.

However, the errant driver refused to stop and tried to run away, but Wasim chased him down and blocked the car’s passage. Subsequently, an armed man got down from the rear seat of the car and fired gunshots at Wasim’s Mercedes before fleeing.

“It’s a road rage incident which can happen anywhere in the world, be it Australia, England or the USA, but taking out a gun isn’t the way to settle any issue,” said the legendary pacer while talking to the media.

“I’ve reported the matter to the police and I believe the security agencies here are very professional, so they will take care of the issue. I’m safe and everything is perfectly fine,” he added “The IGP, DIG and other senior officials spoke to me and I have informed all of them,” Wasim said. “I trust the police will arrest him soon.”

Gulshan-e-Iqbal division SP Abid Qaimkhani while talking to The Express Tribune said: “According to preliminary investigations, it does not appear to be a preplanned attack.”
