Countering terrorism: ATC remands an alleged hit man

The suspect, Imran Bengali alias Bhatli, was arrested in a targeted raid in Orangi Town

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court remanded an alleged hit man to police custody, on Saturday, a day after his arrest was revealed by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The suspect, Imran Bengali alias Bhatli, was arrested in a targeted raid in Orangi Town. According to a press release issued by the CTD, the suspect was wanted for a number of murder cases. During initial interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing political workers and policemen. Bengali was brought before the ATC-I for his remand in murder of man, identified as Rajab Ali. The investigation officer of the case told the court that the suspect along with his absconding accomplices tortured Ali to death and later dumped his body in a gunny bag near Nipa Chowrangi in January 2011. The judge approving the prosecution plea sent the suspect on physical remand till August 8.
