LAHORE:

Six murder convicts were hanged in a series of executions conducted across jails in Punjab on Wednesday, while two hangings were deferred.

In Lahore Central Jail, Abdul Khaliq and Shezad were sent to the gallows for separate crimes.  Khaliq had killed a woman in Factory Area police precincts, while Shezad had shot dead a person.  In Gujrat District Jail, Nasir was hanged for killing a friend in 1999, while the other murder convict had killed a man in 2002.

Both the convicts were handed the death sentence in 2003 by a trial court.  Meanwhile in Vehari District Jail, Abdul Sattar was sent to the gallows for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in 1997 and Sanaullah was executed for killing an 11-year-old boy after molesting him in 2001.

Operation on death warrants of two brothers convicted of murder was suspended at Multan Jail as they presented a document of compromise with the legal heirs of the deceased. The jail authorities referred the case to the trial court for final decision.
