Precious lives are being taken away and no one is there to check

ISLAMABAD: A candlelight vigil was held at the National Press Club to honour human rights activist and lawyer Rashid Rehman. Rehman was shot dead by two gunmen who entered his office in the city of Multan on May 7, 2014 while he was acting as the lawyer for a man accused of blasphemy. The vigil also highlighted that lawyers and judges are often victimised for doing their jobs in such cases. Member of the Pakistan National Commission on the status of women and a council member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Nasreen Azhar, told The Express Tribune that precious lives are being taken away and no one is there to check. “This vigil is just to show that their lives are precious and there are going to be many voices asking for justice, if even one is silenced”, she said.
