Lyari Expressway: SHC stays demolition of houses

KARACHI: The demolition of over 50 houses coming in the way of the Lyari Expressway project was stayed by a Sindh High Court bench on Wednesday.

The bench was hearing a constitutional petition filed by the affectees who submitted that the compensation to the petitioners should be paid in cash according to market rates along with a plot for each family. The bench heard Shaukat Ali Shaikh advocate, the counsel for petitioner Saleem Shehzad and 51 others who maintain that the Lyari Expressway authorities are bent upon demolishing their houses, offering a plot and Rs50,000 each. The bench disposed of the petition and directed the project director, CDGK and the CS to not demolish the houses.
