KARACHI:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Jamal Ahmed escaped an attack on him at his doorstep late on Thursday night, while a delivery boy was injured in the incident.

According to Ahmed, at least two armed motorcyclists wearing helmets held a gun to his head at his residence in Shadman Town, North Nazimabad, within the limits of Sharae Noor Jahan police station.

“We had ordered some food and I opened the door after the delivery boy rang the bell,” recounted Ahmed. “As I was getting the food from him, two young men arrived and held a gun to my forehead.”

He said that he managed to immediately shut the door and escape inside but the assailants resorted to indiscriminate fire, injuring the delivery boy, Haq Nawaz. The injured was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. “I cannot say whether they were street criminals or target killers but we must keep in mind the frequent attacks on MQM men in the city,” Ahmed explained, adding that he had been provided with police security following the attack.

Police officials said that a case had been registered. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the incident and apprehend the attackers.
