Lawyers vote: LHC bar’s Multan, Bahawalpur office bearers elected

Asghar Lodhi was elected the bar’s vice president with 1,189 votes.

BAHAWALPUR/ MULTAN:


Khair Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Ali Gilani were elected presidents of the Lahore High Court Bar’s Bahawalpur and Multan benches respectively on Saturday.


Khan received 966 votes. His rival Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad got 813 votes. Jaam Sibghatullah won the general secretary seat with 1,020 votes. His rival Shaikh Mehbood Alam got 750 votes. Mumtaz Hussain Bazmi was elected vice president with 906 votes. Khalida Riffat Rafiq was elected joint secretary.


Talking to reporters after his victory, Khan said that the lawyers would continue working for strengthening democracy.


Gilani from the Professional Lawyers’ Group won the election for the LHC’s Multan bar president. He got 1,802 votes. His rival, Jamshaid Hayat, got 1,502 votes.


Asghar Lodhi was elected the bar’s vice president with 1,189 votes.


Malik Khan Langah was elected secretary with 1,601 votes; Rubina Yaqub library secretary with 1,397 votes; and Shahida Wazeer the finance secretary.


Gilani said that the bar would focus on empowering young lawyers to bring about a positive change in the legal system.
