The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Punjab has forecast pleasant weather in Lahore and the surrounding areas during the Basant celebrations.

From February 6 to 8, Lahore is expected to experience dry conditions with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures during the festival are likely to range between 20°C and 22°C.

Meanwhile, northern areas are forecast to receive rainfall and snowfall in the mountains, which may intensify cold conditions in higher elevations, the PMD said.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised residents to take safety precautions during Basant celebrations. People are urged to exercise particular care when flying kites near electrical wires and rooftops, avoid the use of metallic or chemical strings, and refrain from using illegal materials.

Motorcyclists are advised to wear helmets and neck protection while participating in festivities, the PDMA added.

Authorities said these measures are intended to ensure public safety during one of the city’s most celebrated seasonal events.

Very cold conditions are expected in hilly areas during the night and morning.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies are forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Light rain and snow may occur at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan.

Temperatures recorded in major cities this morning were: Islamabad 6°C, Lahore 12°C, Karachi 21°C, Peshawar 10°C, Quetta 9°C, Gilgit 2°C, Murree -1°C, and Muzaffarabad 4°C.
