Caricatures issue: APC wants blasphemy declared crime by UN

The conference says Muslim states should break trade ties with countries letting acts of blasphemy go unpunished

An all parties’ conference (APC) convened by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has urged Muslim countries to make joint efforts to put a permanent stop to blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by getting it pronounced as a crime by the United Nations.

In a joint declaration, the conference said the Muslim states should announce breaking of diplomatic, trade and cultural ties with countries letting acts of blasphemy go unpunished, and boycott their products.

The declaration called upon the government to hold an Islamic summit in Islamabad against incidents of blasphemy in the West and work for uniting the Muslim Ummah to adopt a common line of action on the issue.

woody | 9 years ago | Reply If anything the UN would make Free Speech trump Blasphemy every day of the week - Muslims are a minority on this planet and given the constant terrorism/violence not held in high esteem by most of the planet.

Blasphemy should be declared illegal across the world. All religions should have freedom of worship, Hindus should be able to worship thier idols in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and for that matter in former Soviet Union countries. No one can insult the Koran or bible and also the Bhagvata Gita

Mohammad | 9 years ago | Reply first make yourself strong enough so that UN can listen to you.. and there are stronger Muslim Nations than us who can tell UN to do this, but they aren't. Before going to UN, you need to ask these most powerful Muslim nations (GCC countries), why they are not going to UN, specially Saudi Arabia who got such a wealth that they can buy few countries like us.
