ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday raised an objection to a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking the lifting of Section 144 in Islamabad.

The IHC Registrar’s Office raised the objection, saying that the petitioner has not attached a copy of the notification issued by the Islamabad administration regarding the imposition of Section 144 in the capital.

The petition was filed by PTI lawmaker Asad Umer and requested that the court declare Section 144 illegal, as, according to him, the local administration was using the law to harass PTI workers.

The petitioner’s counsel Shoaib Shaheen told The Express Tribune that the petition will be filed again on Thursday with the missing documents attached.

Earlier, eight trade associations from Islamabad had also filed a petition requesting the court to restrain the PTI from staging a rally at D-Chowk on November 30.

IHC judge Athar Minallah referred the issue to the Islamabad deputy commissioner.

Non-bailable arrest warrant of SHO

In a separate case, IHC judge Noorul Haq N Qureshi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Shalimar SHO Sajjad Bukhari for failing to cooperate with the prosecutor in a murder case.

The judge issued the warrant after the standing counsel representing the government said that the investigation officer was not cooperating in the murder case, while the suspect, Tahir Khan, has filed a bail application.

Meanwhile, Bukhari appeared in the court and tendered an unconditional apology. The Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police Operations also appeared in court and assured that he will take action against his subordinate.
