Bangladesh win second ODI in a row to take control of series

Zimbabwe defeated by 68 runs as top order collapses

KARACHI: Bangladesh make it two in two in their five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe as they defeated the visitors by 68 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday.

Chasing 252 for the win, Zimbabwe were pegged back early on as Mashrafe Mortaza dismissed Hamilton Masakadza in the first over. Mortaza then took two more to leave the visitors 40-3.

Solomon Mire’s half century offered some resistance with Regis Chakabva accompanying him but once the duo were dismissed, the hosts wrapped up the tail quickly as Zimbabwe lost four wickets for six runs.

In contrast, Bangladesh’s openers had set them off to a perfect start with a 158-run opening stand. However, the middle order was unable to capitalise on the start as wickets continued to fall and it took a Mominul Haque cameo, 33 off 23 balls, to take the hosts to 251.

The hosts can now seal the series with a win in Dhaka on Wednesday.
