LAHORE:

Green Town police arrested three extortionists on Thursday. They were arrested as they arrived to pick up money they demanded from a citizen, Arif*.

The three had been making threatening phone calls to Arif, asking him to pay extortion or, they said, they would kidnap his children.

The police team asked Arif to agree to pay the amount. The money was placed near the Millat Park area.

When the extortionists arrived to pick up the money, the police arrested them. They were identified as: Muhammad Qasim, Tanveer Alam and Ahmad Ali.

Police said Qasim had once worked for Arif. “After he was fired, he planned to extort money from Arif. He earlier tried to kidnap Arif’s nephew, but failed,” police said. DIG Haider Ashraf has announced prizes for them.
