Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah expressed displeasure over the performance and output of the Sindh Cities Improvement Programme (SCIP) being implemented with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
He was presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the SCIP at Chief Minister House on Thursday. He constituted a three-member committee headed by the development additional chief secretary. Its two other members will be finance secretary and the secretary to CM.
The committee will recommend means to overhaul the administrative, operational and financial structure of the SCIP for the success of the programme. The CM said that this megaproject is being implemented since 2009 in phases with the financial assistance of the ADB to improve conditions in less developed districts at an estimated cost of $400 million.
Under the project, efficient water supply, sanitation and solid waste management were supposed to be ensured. However, despite spending time and money on the first phase, nothing is being delivered to the people of areas under the project, he said.
