HYDERABAD:

Two police personnel were killed and two others wounded in an alleged encounter with dacoits in village Burhan Brohi, Sanghar district, on Thursday. Two of the robbers were also killed in the encounter.

The police party, comprising personnel from several police stations, raided the village to arrest Hyder Brohi alias Hyderu, who was nominated in several cases of murders, kidnappings and other crimes. However, the outlaws refused to surrender and opened fire at the police, according to DSP Muhammad Ayub, who led the team.

The deceased policemen have been identified as Abdul Razzak Ansari and Muhammad Mithal Bhatti, while the robbers include Hyderu and Idrees Brohi. Police officials, Ahmed Khan Rind and Iqbal Hingoro, were also injured.

The DSP said that Hyderu carried a head money of Rs500,000. He was nominated in the murders of three police officials, besides around 12 other killings. He said that the police was informed about Hyderu’s presence in the village after which SSP Farrukh Hussain Lanjar directed them to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, Abdul Mehmood Brohi, father of Idrees, claimed that his son had no relation with the slain robber. “He was working in the agricultural field when a bullet hit him.” The villagers also accused the police of arresting at least six innocent villagers who were offering prayers at the mosque.

The incident’s FIR has not been registered so far. The dead bodies of the suspects were handed over to their families after the post-mortem.
