Relief sent from Faisalabad for Jhang and Chiniot

Preparations being finalised to airdrop supplies.

BAHAWALPUR/ FAISALABAD:

Administration Officials said a relief convoy comprising 17 trucks had left for Jhang, Chiniot and Hafizabad on Friday.

They said Excise and Taxation Minister Shujaur Rehman flagged the convoy off. Provincial Assembly Member Tahir Jamil, District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal, District Officer Coordination Saifullah Khan and Agriculture Executive District Officer Ishtiaq Hassan were present on the occasion. They informed the minister that the trucks were carrying packets containing rice, pulses, ghee, sugar, tea, flour, spices and mineral water.

Mengal said another convoy of 23 trucks had been sent to Jhang and Chiniot earlier. He said the district administration was finalising preparations to start airdropping supplies in inundated areas. Mengal said district administration had established a flood control and relief centre at Jhang to help the administration in Jhang.

He said the government was utilising all resources at its disposal to assist those affected.

He praised district officials for dispatching supplies to affected areas efficiently. Mengal praised philanthropists for contributing generously to the cause.

FWMC rescues 4,000 flood-affected families

“Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) has so far rescued more than 4000 people from flood-hit areas,” said FWMC Managing Director Amjad Ali Awan on Friday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, he said the FWMC had deployed 200 workers in Jhang.

He said four tankers of safe drinking water, six dumpers and 11 excavators had also been dispatched to flood-hit areas.

He said the FWMC had also setup a donation collection centre at Clock Tower Chowk.

‘Ensure all flood-hit areas are vacated’

In Bahawalpur, Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq said evacuation of people and their livestock from flooded areas must be ensured.

He said the government would take all possible steps to rehabilitate flood victims.

He said the government was trying to make sure there was no loss of life in the floods.

He was being briefed at the central flood control room at Panjnad headworks.

He directed administration officials to complete evacuation of people.

He said all relief camps should be equipped with medicine and food.

He directed officials to stay alert during provide every all kinds of relief to the flood victims.

He also visited Chachran Sharif and monitored medical camps established at various locations.

Earlier, two helipads at Panjnad were prepared and the number of relief camps was increased.
