LAHORE:

University of Health Sciences (UHS) has started preparing a team of 55 master trainers who will train faculty members of medical and dental colleges in modern teaching methodologies, learning techniques and evaluation procedures.

The trainers, who have been selected from the faculty of affiliated medical colleges, are being trained by foreign experts.

The project has been launched from the platform of the Council for Collaboration in Medical Education, an initiative of the UHS.

The master trainers will conduct workshops on various aspects of medical education at their home institutions.

The UHS Medical Education Department on Tuesday organised a workshop for the master trainers.

University of Liverpool Director of the Post Graduate Programme in Medical Education David Christopher Morgan Taylor and University of Western Australia’s Associate Professor in Medical Education Zarrin Siddiqui conducted the workshop.

The workshop covered medical education, including problem-based learning, team-based learning, simulated patients, technology-assisted learning and professionalism and ethics.

UHS Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Junaid Sarfraz Khan said arranging master trainers was a step towards standardising medical education.

“We intend to launch online professional development courses for medical faculties,” he said. The World Health Organisation had been approached to endorse the courses so that a joint WHO-UHS certificate could be awarded.
