KARACHI:

Pakistan’s squad for the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group II final left for Bangkok on Saturday.

The team includes Aisamul Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, Muhammad Abid and Yasir Khan, who will be accompanied by non-playing captain Muhammad Khalid.

According to the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) press statement, Samir Iftikhar will also fly out to Bangkok where he will compete against Abid and Yasir, in the week before the tie, in order to vie for a place in the final line-up.

Aqeel believes that Thailand can give them a strong competition when Pakistan will play their Group II final on September 12.

This is Pakistan’s chance to be promoted to Group I after lurking in the Asian-Oceania Zone Group II for nine years.

According to Aqeel, the team’s departure a week before the tie will help the players get accustomed to the weather conditions and hard courts in Thailand.
