Call for help: Scores protest police failure to recover child

Scores of Mamu Kanjan residents staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday against police for not recovering an abducted child.

The protesters placed barriers and burnt tyres on Okara-Tandlianwala Road. They carried banners and placards carrying slogans against police.

They shouted slogans against police and demanded that they immediately arrest the kidnappers.

Muhammad Amin, one of the protesters, told the media unidentified people had kidnapped the eight-month-old boy of Muhammad Ali, a resident of Mamu Kanjan.

He said a complaint was filed at Mamu Kanjan police station but police had failed to recover the child.

“When we visited the police station, we were told by some men that we would have to bribe police to secure the safe recovery of the boy,” Amin said.

The Samundri deputy superintendent (DSP) met the protesters and assured them that police would arrest the kidnappers and recover the boy soon. He said action would be taken against the police officials found guilty of negligence. The protesters then called off the demonstration and dispersed.

The Mamu Kanjan station house officer said police had found a clue about the whereabouts of the boy.

“We are conducting raids to arrest the suspects. We hope to secure the release of the child in a couple of days,” the SHO said.
