FAISALABAD/ LAHORE:

Police on Wednesday took five employees of the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology into custody for allegedly stealing equipment used in heart surgery. The value of the stolen material is estimated to be around Rs5 million.

The FIC administration had earlier filed a complaint with the Civil Lines police, stating that equipment and material used in angiography, plastic surgery and heart surgery were missing from the hospital. The hospital had to postpone several procedures and heart operations.

The FIC management also nominated staff members suspected of the theft.

FIC MS Ziaullah said the suspects had managed to get a duplicate key of the store where the equipment was kept. SHO Rana Naseer Khan Manj said they had used the CCTV footage of the store to identify the suspects. He said the accused would be presented in court on Thursday.
