KARACHI: Comedian Zakir Mastana fell seriously ill after drinking phenyl instead of water at the Arts Council in Karachi on Friday evening.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, on Saturday, Mastana sounded better, as he recalled that he was having dinner at Arts Council, where rehearsals for his play are taking place.

"It so happened, that while I was having dinner, somebody placed a water bottle in front of me, which consisted of phenyl instead. I was very much unaware of it and I drank from it. As I drank the liquid, I started to feel dizzy and my throat felt completely dry,” he said.

He further recalls, “I called up Dr Abid Hussain Mirza of Karachi Children Hospital who asked me to rush to the hospital.”

Mastana does not suspect anyone as responsible for this incident and is unsure whether it was a prank.

He said that his stomach has been cleansed twice and his condition is much better now, while requesting his fans to pray for his health and well-being.

Mastana’s upcoming play ‘Buss Chup’, written and directed by him, will be staged at the Arts Council, Karachi June 21 to June 24.

Dear Mastana Sahib, You need to examine your life - such incidents are a warning from HE who matters. You need to stop spreading ill-will and need to stop laughing at others and being defamatory.
