KARACHI:

Two days have passed since the disappearance of two men from the city's outskirts yet the police continue to delay registering the case due to a dispute between the Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-e-Maymar police over jurisdiction.

Two employees allegedly working for the United Nations (UN) went missing from the outskirts of the city under mysterious circumstances. The employees, Farrukh and Sami, had reportedly come from Hyderabad to visit a family resort in the city on Thursday and have been missing ever since.

Along with the confusion about whose jurisdiction the case falls under, the police officials remain unsure whether the employees belonged to the Unicef or UNHCR.

"They had come to a bus stop on Sohrab Goth to pick up someone and have been missing ever since. Their car has been recovered and after tracking their cellphones, we have learned that their last known location was also Sohrab Goth in district East," said district West SSP Irfan Baloch, while talking to The Express Tribune. "This falls under the jurisdiction of the district East police and they should register and investigate the case."

The district East DSP Qamar Ahmed, on the other hand, said that the Gulshan-e-Maymar police are responsible for registering and investigating the case. "No one from the UN even approached us," he said. "We are ready to register the case if any complainant approaches us to register it." Meanwhile, the officials from different bodies of the UN in Karachi, were unaware of any UN employee having gone missing.
