Lawmakers and environmental experts gathered at the Sindh Assembly building to mark Earth Hour between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by World Wide Fund for Nature -  Pakistan (WWF- Pakistan) and the Sindh government.

The lights of the provincial assembly building were switched off in the presence of 51 lawmakers from various parties. “It is not just about turning the lights off but also about changing lifestyles, consumption patterns and to be more aware,” said provincial minister for environment and parliamentary affairs, Dr Sikandar Mandhro.

The current year’s Earth Hour theme was ‘Use Your Power’ and Sindh joined 7,000 cities and more than 156 countries across the world by celebrating this event in various cities across Sindh.

This is the first time in the history of the world that a government has passed a resolution for Earth Hour,” claimed Rab Nawaz, the regional director for WWF-Pakistan.
