Importance of providing equal opportunities, ending the unjust distribution of resources highlighted at lecture.

ISLAMABAD: Importance of providing equal opportunities and ending the unjust distribution of resources was highlighted at a memorial lecture at the International Islamic University’s Faisal Mosque campus on Monday.

The lecture was accompanied by a book launch and a talk to commemorate renowned social scientist Akhtar Hameed Khan and his work for the poor.

The participants underlined the need to redress inequalities and unjust distribution of resources by providing opportunities to the deprived segment of the society.

Prof Mahmood Hassan, who teaches at the Simon Fraser University said, “He was a charismatic personality of high thinking and believed in simple living. He has left a glorious legacy of social development.”

RSPN Chairperson Shoaib Sultan Khan, who was the disciple of Akhtar Hameed, said,“One of the greatest initiatives taken by him was the Orangi Pilot Project in Karachi.”
