HYDERABAD: The prison officials of Hyderabad jail, which currently houses dozens of convicts and suspects facing terrorism charges, are receiving death threats from terrorists, according to Hyderabad division DIG, Akram Naeem Bharoka.

"We have increased security inside and outside the prisons. The prison police officers have also been given additional security. Up to 30 personnel have been deployed to protect them," he told reporters on Wednesday.

The central jail is home to high-risk inmates such as the terrorists involved in the Daniel Pearl murder case including Shaikh Omer, Fahad Naseem and two others.

It is also believed that high profile terrorism suspects and convicts have been shifted from Karachi to other parts of Sindh after the recent terrorist attack outside the Karachi central jail. "A multi-tier security system has been put in place in the prisons," the DIG explained.

Talking about crime control measures being introduced in Hyderabad, he informed that Rs250million had been earmarked for the installation of 500 CCTV cameras in the district. Additionally, 20 more centers of '15' emergency police are being established and each of them will be given two motorbikes.  A command and control center on the lines of the one in Karachi is also planned for Hyderabad, he added.
