KARACHI:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders and workers marked the 60th birthday of slain party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Friday and resolved to continue her mission.

Cake-cutting ceremonies were organised in all five districts of Karachi with the main events held at the PPP secretariat, Bilawal House and Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology. Sindh Peoples Youth and Sindh Peoples Student Federation arranged their separate functions and paid rich tribute to the fallen leader.

Besides the cake-cutting, Quran Khawani was also held and blood donation camps were set up at Jinnah, Civil and other hospitals in Karachi.

Addressing the gathering at Bilawal House, PPP MPA Owais Muzaffar said that they would continue to follow the ideals of Benazir Bhutto. He further said that the PPP did not believe in ethnic politics and will not let anyone play with the rights of Sindh. “The people have again given us the mandate and we will fight for their rights at every forum.”

Muzaffar said that democracy in the country has been made possible by the sacrifices rendered by Bhutto. “Let there be no doubt that the nation is enjoying the fruit of democracy because Benazir Bhutto struggled for the rule of law and true democracy in the country.”

Following the conclusion of the ceremony at the Bilawal House, Muzaffar left for Dubai to attend the function organised by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He also called Faisal Subzwari, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, to condole the death of Muttahida Qaumi Leader MPA Sajid Qureshi and assured him of complete cooperation of the government.

Mirza | 10 years ago | Reply There are two types of leaders one that live and die with courage and for principles and the equality of humans. Liaquat Ali, ZAB, Dr. Khan, BB, Taseer, Biluor, and Bhatti are some of the examples of the above. They live on in the history while their killers and opponents live under oblivion. The other types are lifetime politicians who always go to the power via backdoor as they have no chance in an election. These come and go and disappear in the history even some are officially deleted from the country’s history as Gen Zia’s name has officially been deleted from Pakistani history. It is God and only God who bestows honor or dishonor to humans.
