Mehdi Shah, the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, warned Nawaz Sharif against ‘meddling’ with the PPP-led government in the region.
“Attempts to dislodge our government will lead to a contest closely observed by the media and the public,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
However, Shah admitted this was a defensive stance, with no visible provocation as yet from the PML-N camp.
“We are sure he [Nawaz] won’t do that [meddle with the G-B government], as his gestures towards Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh are quite encouraging,” he said. On the other hand, PML-N leaders said they favoured the G-B government completing its term.
“PML-N isn’t interested in toppling the government, though we may replace the governor,” said the regional chief of the PML-N, Hafizur Rahman. “The public will provide accountability, as it did in the recent elections.”
Improving conditions
Shah also spoke about the upcoming budget allotment for G-B, claiming that the total budget layout for 2013-14 would be Rs24.6 billion, nearly 34% more than the previous budget.
“The development budget will be Rs9.7 billion, while the non-development budget will be Rs15billion for G-B,” Shah said.

Nawaz is biased against Shias.
@sanevoice: how was it the worse?
He is the PM. He Can. Your government was the worst government in the history of GB and really someone requires mending your ways.
Do you physically own GB? Central government can interfere when it becomes absolutely necessary.
