ISLAMABAD:

Desperate for electoral alliances, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has forged one with Dr Abdul Qadir Khan’s Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Pakistan (TTP) while it is still negotiating for seat adjustments with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

JI and TTP will field joint candidates in the upcoming elections. The alliance will be demonstrated with a show of power at a grand jalsa (public gathering) at Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore before May 11, said JI chief Munawwar Hasan after holding a meeting with Dr Abdul Qadir Khan at his residence on Tuesday.

“Besides talking to other political parties, we are also negotiating with other religious parties. We are trying that at least all religious parties support each other’s candidates,” said Hasan while speaking to journalists after his meeting with Dr Khan.

Khan’s representative Chaudhry Khursheed Zamman told the media that the party has advised Dr. Khan not to contest elections. However, the party has forged an alliance with JI and would perform well in the upcoming elections, the TTP leaders hoped.

JI chief said the people will reject those who have been looting them for the last five years. The PML-N in Punjab has also done corruption, but yes JI was considering seat-adjustment with it regardless.

Talking about former President Pervez Musharraf, the JI chief said he would face worst defeat if allowed to contest elections. In the first place, his candidature would be rejected even from Chitral, Hasan added.

Not surprising that a nuclear proliferator would align himself with religious extremist - I am surprised the PTI would ever consider an alliance - a sign that winning takes president over principle.
