IIUI staff: Three appointments declared illegal

The petitioners had challenged the hiring over a year back.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday declared the appointments of three International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) staffers illegal.

IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui declared the appointments of Islamic Research Institute (IRI) Director General DG Dr Khalid Masood, who is also ad-hoc member of the Shariat Appellate bench of the Supreme Court, assistant editor of the Islamic Studies journal Fatima Khan, and the editor of the Fikr-o-Nazar research journal Assistant Professor Khurshid Ahmed Nadeem.

The petitioners — IIUI Law Unit In-Charge Dr Asmatullah and five other university staffers — had challenged the appointments over a year back.



The petitioners’ counsel Advocate Javed Akbar argued the three staff members were appointed on contractual  basis in December 2011 in a  manner that lacked transparency.

He said that the appointments were made without advertising the posts, which is illegal.

He maintained that the respondents were also not qualified for these posts.

He also argued that Khurshid Nadeem is also an employee of Pakistan Television and according to IIUI and HEC rules, the official cannot hold two such positions concurrently.
