KARACHI:

Police officials claim to have recognised the men responsible for the assassination of the vice president of the Binoria seminary, Mufti Abdul Majeed Deenpuri, his colleague, Mufti Saleh, and a student, Hassan Ali.

They were shot dead on Sharae Faisal, near Nursery on Thursday.

Tipu Sultan police told The Express Tribune that they have been able to get sketches made of the culprits using CCTV footage and statements by witnesses.

We have used the services of mobile phone companies to trace data from the culprits’ cell phones an hour before and after the incident occurred, they added. One of the three suspects used to work at a government office in Nursery area. Additionally, the backup vehicle assisting the culprits had been brought in from Hyderabad.

According to the officials, the forensics report from the incidents suggests that the six 9mm pistols found at the crime scene had also been used in the sectarian killings in Nazimabad and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

They had conducted raids to arrest the culprits but hadn’t been able to trace them so far. Officials from other police departments, including Special Investigation Unit and Crime Investigation Department, are also assisting the Tipu Sultan police in the investigation. DSP Nisar Qaimkhani told The Express Tribune that the police is doing everything it can to resolve the case.
