SHCBA elections: Lawyers put thumb to paper today

Polling will be held in Iftikhar Hall inside the high court premises.

KARACHI: The annual elections of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) will be held today. In Karachi, 1,734 voters will put their thumbs to paper to elect their association’s office bearers for the next year.

The presidential candidates are Advocate Mushtaq Ahmed and Advocate Mustafa Lakhani while Advocate Akhlaq Ahmed Khan and Advocate Yousuf Maulvi are in the run for the post of the vice president.

Advocate Asghar Nasim Faruqui and Advocate Muhammad Saleem Mangrio are contesting for the general secretary post. Advocate Rehan Aziz Malik has already been elected unopposed as the joint secretary.

For the post of treasurer, Advocate Majid Noman Khan and Advocate Shaikh Ikram Aziz are contesting.

The 17 candidates in the running for nine seats of managing committee are: Advocates Asim Aziz Khan, Asjad Sattar, Azizuddin Qureshi, Fazalur Rehman, Khursheed Javed, Liaquat Hussain, Aslam Chaudhry, Ikram Siddiqui, Iqbal Aqeel, Nadeem A. Shaikh, Naseem Jawaid, Qazi Ali Athar, Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui, Rehan Farooq, Ms. Saeeda Siddiqui, Samsam Ali Khan and Z.U. Mujahid.

Senior lawyer Abdullah Chandio has been appointed as the election commissioner for the voting process. Polling will be held at Iftikhar Hall (SHC Bar Association Office) inside the high court premises. The votes will be cast from 10am and till 5pm.
