FAISALABAD:

Batala Colony police on Friday produced a man, accused of kidnap and murder of a six-year-old girl, before Judicial Magistrate Najeebullah, who handed him to the police on five-day physical remand. The man was arrested on Thursday night. Batala Colony police station Station House Officer Rana Umar Draz said Nadeem, a rickshaw driver, was arrested after six days of search. He said the man had confessed to strangling the girl after an attempted rape. He had then dumped the body in a field, the SHO said.

He said the body was in bad shape and had bruises around the neck and other parts.

The girl’s father, a barber in the area, told the police that his daughter, a class one student, was kidnapped from the street in front of their house in Siddique Nagar on June 23. He said she was playing with some children from the neighbourhood. He said the family looked for her for two days and finally reported the matter to the police. Police said a case was registered against the suspect and a team was formed to look for him.

Nadeem told police that he had taken the girl to a nearby sugarcane field. He said when the girl started shouting, he strangled her and abandoned the body there.

The SHO said that the body had been sent for a post mortem examination to ascertain whether rape had occurred. For now, he said, a case under Section 302 has been registered against him. If sexual offence is found, he said, the relevant section will be added to the FIR.
