A new twist surfaced in the case of the kidnapping of the former accountant of Sharif family, when two senior officers of the Lahore police named three federal agents as prime suspects and demanded their custody for interrogation, sources said.
The abduction of Muhammad Akram has once again pitted the Punjab and the Federal governments against each other. Akram has alleged in an FIR that he was picked up by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials and grilled for hours to cough up evidence against PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, taking notice of the issue, had directed thorough investigation of the matter.
On Friday, SSP Investigations Lahore Abdul Razzaq Cheema and SP Investigations Model Town Ijaz Shafi Doger visited the FIA Punjab office along with the case file of the kidnapping.
The police team reached the FIA office at about 3:30 pm and remained in the office of FIA Punjab Director Waqar Haider till 5:30 pm. Additional Director FIA Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) Baber Sarfraz Alpa was also present on this occasion, the sources said.
The police investigation team pointed out the names of three FIA officials – Deputy Director FIA Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) Syed Javed Hussain Shah, Assistant Director FIA Anti Corruption Circle (ACC) Jameel Ahmed Khan, and Sub Inspector of FIA ACC Murtaza Bajwa – in the abduction of former accountant of Sharif family, the sources revealed.
FIA Punjab director refused to handover the named officials forthwith. Waqar Haider told the police team that he would convey their message to the FIA Headquarters in Islamabad and after permission, he would be in a position to reply regarding the surrendering of these officials, the sources said.
