Targeted attacks: Reporter, three others found dead in Lyari

Two bodies were found in the Lyari nullah in Pak Colony.

KARACHI: A reporter of a Sindhi newspaper and two others were found dead on Wednesday while two policemen were also injured in a drive-by shooting.

Two bodies were found from the Lyari nullah in Pak Colony and were taken to Civil hospital. The victims were identified as 31-year-old Fawad Sheikh and 35-year-old Tariq Kamal. The police said that both were friends and had been missing since Sunday when they were kidnapped and later. Their bodies were later dumped in the nullah.

Kamal was an assistant chief reporter at a Sindhi newspaper while Fawad was a leather merchant and the father of a four-month-old baby boy.

The third body of 45-year-old Mohammad was found in  Moosa Lane, Lyari. He was taken to Civil hospital. The police said that he had been shot twice in the head and face. Malik Shahbaz was gunned down outside his house in Junejo Town, said Baloch Colony police.

Constable Mukhtiar and another policeman, Faisal, were shot and injured in a drive-by shooting when they were sitting at a hotel on Super Highway.

The Special Investigation Unit claimed to have arrested two men, Irfan, alias Fauji, and Dilawar, whom they believe are associated with a gang in Lyari.

SIU chief SP Khurram Waris said that they were caught in Gulbai and are members of Sohail Ladla’s group.

He said that the men admitted to killing four people and were also involved in extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
