KARACHI: Pakistan’s campaign of qualifying for the junior hockey World Cup was off to a winning start as the Greenshirts beat China 1-0 in their opening match of the Junior Asia Cup in Malaysia.
According to details made available, they were made to work hard for the win. China put on a defiant show and held Pakistan back until the 32nd minute when Mohammad Suleman managed to convert a field effort.
Despite the win, Pakistan coach Rana Mujahid was not satisfied with the show his team put on.
“China played well but we missed four to five easy chances,” Mujahid told The Express Tribune from Malacca. “We did some experiments but even then, the amount of chances we missed is concerning.”
Pakistan will now take on defending champion India tomorrow who showed no mercy as they trashed Sri Lanka 11-0 in their opening match.
Meanwhile, Mujahid was hopeful of an improved show from his side for the crucial tie.
