Tennis: Aqeel, Yasir qualify for 2nd round in singles event

Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan thrashed qualifier Jahanzaib Khan 6-2, 6-3.

Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan thrashed qualifier Jahanzaib Khan 6-2, 6-3 on the opening day to reach the second round of the Subhe Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship in Islamabad yesterday.


In another match, Aqeel’s younger brother and Pakistan number two Yasir Khan also won his first-round match against Mohammad Mazhar 6-2, 6-1 before veteran Hameedul Haq lost to Imran Shaukat 7-6, 6-4.

Meanwhile, unseeded Jibranul Haq stunned sixth-seed Sanaullah Khan 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to progress in the competition and Usman Ijaz defeated Omer Babar 7-5, 6-0.
