Illegal weapons, drugs: Over 400 nabbed this year

City police have nabbed over 250 drug dealers and liquor smugglers

ISLAMABAD: The city police have nabbed over 250 drug dealers and liquor smugglers, along with over 200 arrests for possession of illegal weapons since the start of 2012. In a statement released by the police spokesperson’s office, 256 people involved in liquor smuggling and drug pushing and 215 people in possession of illegal weapons were arrested. The police also recovered a huge cache of contraband liquor and weapons. The police said that in 218 cases registered against illegal weapons dealers, 182 pistols, 13 guns, three carbines, three hand grenades, nine rifles, six AK-47s and 2,091 rounds were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects. Police also recovered 7.221 kilograms of heroin, 118.6 kg of hashish, 5.676 kg of opium, and 2,749 bottles of liquor during the arrests in the first quarter of the year.
