HYDERABAD:
A court has extended till the next hearing the bail before arrest for Syeda Wahida Shah Bukhari, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s contestant in the recent by-elections in PS-53 constituency.
She has challenged the verdict of her summary trial by the returning officer who imposed a fine of Rs1,000. She will become a convict in either way, through payment of the penalty or default.
Her counsel, advocate Nisar Durrani, withdrew from the case and the new lawyer, Rashid A Razvi advocate, sought time from the court to prepare the case. The sixth additional district and sessions judge Shahid Pervez Memon adjourned the hearing till April 14.
Bukhari had unofficially won the February 25 by-polls in Tando Muhammad Khan. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared the results null and void and banned her from contesting the elections for two years because she was accused of assaulting the polling staff.
