BAHAWALPUR:

A woman has accused her two brothers-in-law of attempting to rape her following her refusal to work as a sex worker. In the FIR registered at Airport police station, Kausar Bibi* stated that her mother-in-law and brothers-in-law had been pressing her to take up sex work since her husband left for work in Karachi some months after their marriage a year ago.

On Thursday, she said, her brothers-in-law tried to sexually assault her ‘for being disobedient’. She said she was rescued by a neighbour who heard her cries and rushed to the scene.  She said the men as well as her mother-in-law later fled the house.

The complainant said she had told her husband about the incident but he had wanted to protect his family. “He told me to refrain from taking any action until he returned home.

However, I reported the matter to the police realizing I’d be at personal risk if I did not,” she said.
