Extortion: 3 arrested, ammunition recovered in Lyari crackdown

Raids in Lyari's Nayabad, Daryabad and Kamila Stop, Kalashnikovs; bullets recovered.

KARACHI: Three men were arrested and  ammunition was recovered from different areas of Lyari during a CID targeted operation on Tuesday.

CID police, alongwith SP City Police began a targeted search operation between Tuesday and Wednesday in the Lyari area.

During the operation, Police raided the streets of Nayabad, Daryabad and Kamila Stop and arrested three men, confiscating 2 Klashnikovs and several bullets from them.

According to police officials, the targeted operations will continue until the extortionists are eradicated from all areas of Lyari.

Earlier, Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik said in a news conference that an operation against extortionists was to begin in Karachi before dawn on Tuesday. Malik had also said that the operation would be indiscriminate.

He said that the Sindh Assembly would soon pass an anti-extortion law which would cover all extortion-related offences.

He also added that 10,000 new recruitments would be made in the Sindh police and that the federal government would pay the salaries of half of them.
