Motorcycle bomb kills two in Dera Murad Jamali

Banned militant outfit Baloch Republican Army claims responsibility for the attack.

QUETTA: Two children died and 12 people were injured when a police van was attacked with a remote-controlled device in Dera Murad Jamali.

Two policemen were among those injured and received splinter wounds.

Official security sources said that unidentified persons had planted explosives on a motorcycle and parked it at the road near Bakra Mandi. The device was detonated as a police van passed by the area.

The explosion killed two children, who were passing by, who died on the spot. The police vehicle was destroyed in the attack.

Banned militant outfit Baloch Republican Army has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

A spokesperson, who identified himself as Sarbaz Baloch, called reporters from an unspecified location and said that the organisation had planted the remote control device.

A heavy contingent of police and personnel of other law-enforcing agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The bodies and injured were taken to nearby state-run District Headquarters Hospital in DM Jamali. Three injured were referred to Jacobabad because of critical wounds. The identities of the deceased could not be known soon.

DM Jamali police said the target was the van that was patrolling the area and investigations have been started into the incident.
