Governor Latif Khan Khosa said on Thursday that the country could achieve economic progress through promotion of education, and not by material wellbeing alone.
He said the government should focus its attention on educating the youth and equipping them with critical thinking skills.
Khosa was speaking at an international conference on Faiz Ahmad Faiz at Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF), on Thursday.
The governor said works of poets like NM Rashid, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Habib Jalib and Allama Muhammad Iqbal should be an inspiration for people of Pakistan.
He said Faisalabad was Faiz’s native city and that the current crises it was passing through should be solved in light of the poet’s message for the workers.
He said exploitation of workers would not be tolerated as it was a violation of their fundamental human rights.
To a question about the spot-fixing scandal, Khosa said the three cricketers had brought a bad name to the country and that they should be penalised for that.
Chairman National Language Authority (NLA) Rana Anwar Ahmad and GCUF Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Husain also spoke on the occasion.
