The six hour long emergency Corps Commanders meeting chaired by Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani concluded in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Sources said no formal declaration of the meeting will be issued.
Chairman joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) General Khalid Shamim Wynne expressed concern over the recent statements made by the US, and said that Pak-US relations need to be improved.
Sources said the military top brass decided that every decision is to be taken in Pakistan's interest and that attacks from Afghanistan on the Pak-Afghan border will not be tolerated in the future.
An emergency meeting of Corps Commanders was called by General Kayani in the wake of the prevailing security situation and tension in relations with the United States.
An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said the meeting was being chaired by Kayani. Issues regarding national security are on top of the agenda.
All corps commanders and principle staff officers attended the meeting.
According to sources, recent allegations leveled by US military chief Mike Mullen that Pakistan has links with the Haqqani network will also be discussed.
The Pakistan Army has denied accusations by senior US officials that Pakistan's intelligence service supports the Haqqani network, saying it is based in Afghanistan.
However, spokesman for the ISPR Major General Athar Abbas did acknowledge that the ISI had contacts with the Haqqanis.
He told CNN that any intelligence agency prefers keeping contacts with opposition groups and terrorist organizations for some sort of positive outcome.
He stressed that this does not mean the ISI supports or endorses the organization.
Abbas also added that Pakistan is not the only country which maintains contacts with the Haqqanis.
He also expressed his shock at Mullen's assertion that Pakistan was complicit in recent attacks against the US Embassy in Kabul.
In an earlier statement, Kayani termed the comments by Mullen as ‘unfortunate’, and ‘not based on facts’.

In the first official reaction to the slew of public statements made by various levels of the US administration against the ISI and suspected links between the Haqqani network and the Pakistan establishment, Kayani said that he had held a constructive meeting with Admiral Mullen in Spain last week.
He termed the statements following that meeting as very disturbing.
On the question of contacts with Haqqani network, Kayani said that Admiral Mullen knows well which countries are in contact with the Haqqanis. Singling out Pakistan as the chief protagonist is neither fair nor productive, he said.
'Self-defeating blame game'
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday rejected US allegations linking Islamabad with the Haqqani terror network, saying the "blame game is self-defeating".
Gilani said such accusations would only benefit the militants, and added that they showed US policy in Afghanistan was in "disarray".
"We strongly reject assertions of complicity with the Haqqanis or of proxy war," he said in a policy statement issued by his office amid a growing rift with the United States.
"Blame game is self-defeating... It will only benefit the enemies of peace. Only terrorists and militants will gain from any fissures and divisions."
The White House demanded Friday that Pakistan "break any link they have" with the Haqqanis, the al Qaeda-linked Taliban faction blamed for the recent attack on the US embassy in Kabul.
A day earlier top US military officer Admiral Mike Mullen directly accused Pakistan's intelligence service of supporting the network's attack on the embassy and a truck bombing on a NATO outpost.
"The allegations betray a confusion and policy disarray within the US establishment on the way forward in Afghanistan," Gilani said.

@Seher: As Usual Indians are flocking here in this news forum and commenting with hatfull things. After 9/11 if we check internet you will see mostly forums where Any Paksitani news is these indians are flocking and commenting. It clearly shows theri desperation against pakistan when America will wage war on Pakistan.
Keep Seeing Dreams.
@ Pundit
Come on. Grow up.
Musharraf offered to mediate between Israel and Palestine
Zardari offered to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran
Who will offer to mediate between USA and Pakistan?
@Seher: but inshallah we will stand tall till the time Allah is with us...... we should not fear kuffar
@Indian..."Islam is an Arab supremacist, imperialist and totalitarian ideology."
Islam is a global religion. One of the foundations of this religion (quoted in a hadith) is that an Arab does not have advantage over a non Arab and vice versa.
On the other hand, can you provide me a reference or valid verification which challenges the view that Hinduism is an "Indian supremacist, imperialist and totalitarian ideology"?
Seriously speaking, this religion has always been culturally Indian and has never been globalised
All venomous comments by Indians, all hostile comments ,pls dont try to make this page of ET, "PANI PAT KA TEESRA MAIDAN" not a single comment smells good intentions for Pakistan.Perhaps the only thing that's bothering them is not inviting them to solve our problems.Listen we have been tackling a super power alone so we dont have any "phalto " time for you.
ISI should be reformed and put under civilian control. This agency has gone berserk and needs to be controlled. We (US) should not tolerate anyone attacking US interest(s) global.
In July Admiral Mike Mullen said that Pakistan’s government may have sanctioned the killing of a Pakistani journalist Saleem Shazad, who was tracing the ISI misdeeds. To this day nothing has been heard except that they cannot trace his cell phone records. Maybe G.O.P should ask US Nation Security Agency for phone records for investigation.
Maybe this will finally give us pause to pull back the begging bowl Most of the funds go to corrupt officials and foreign consultants anyways...few cents trickle down to the poor people ............ Why does Pakistan support or not attack the Haqqanis….INDIA stupid would be the response…having all borders being hostile is unthinkable ………… Pakistan cannot succeed in a conventional battle with a super power...but does the US want to start a third conflict...don't think so....probably looking at surgical punishment ............ Sadly conflicts have a way of spiraling out of control...it would be bad for both countries and a feast for the terrorist ............ The bellicose concerted and multiple verbal accusation is a well planned strategy by the US....coming from shear frustration and confusion...in a unwinnable conflict NEED TO WAKE UP
I am not really sure but the odds are that army will buckle under US demands and all this talk about calling all the national leaders is sort of letting them know that they gona start waziristan operation..that what the track record says anyways.
@Bubble: better yet you can continue reading those text books and come up wiv the technology to shoot those drones and aircraft carriers
Guys, open your eyes, British complied a report back in 1789 AD to break up Ottoman empire through divisions and ethnic groups, through freedom of information act in UK, any body can access that report. Base on that i want to draw all of your attention to report in US congress about how to invade Pakistan back in 2005, Though title of report is about China but it clearly refers to the Pakistan and ditching it to lowest level, Pakistan being Nuclear power (not accepted) is only hurdle in invasion of Islamic countries, slowly and steadily we been divided like a cake. What worse will be that the argument will be created, Pakistan will be invaded, broken up in pieces, and then sold into corporate slavery for next 300 years. Just prepare for being slaves in near future, before you will even know one of general or sick politician will sell us off. Best solution, seal the border, kick off all afghans, stop supply lines and negotiate better terms for supply lines and earn your prestige back.
well, what did we thing he would say?
@Subhash, India: Dear ( or not) neighbor: Pls name 1 country is the asian continent that likes India. Ever wonder why that is? Stop believing you government that you & your RAW does not do dirty work. Seriously, pls ................... BTW, how do you like the real freedom of expression on a Pakistani platform? would you please teach this to your country men?
Honourable President Dr. Zardari and his Great son Bilalwal will save Pakistan again.
@Bubble: Right with you bro!
these r crocodile tears from kayani. If he was serious about pak interests drone attacks could have been stopped longtime back.
Pakistani people need to realize that trying to bleed / dismember India, loot Afghanistan's resources will not improve their conditions. Unfortunately since before the creation of Pakistan in 1947 the Muslims of India are have been told that Hindus (which they understand as non-Muslim Indians), West, etc. etc. are all against them. They have started believing the falsehood that they are Muslims first, and wannabe Arabs. Even the Iranians realized ~300 years ago that even though they are still nominally Muslim, they will remain "second class citizens in the Muslim world", and hence converted to Shi'a sect wholesale. The Afghans and Pakistanis also need to realize this. Unless they do so, they will continue to be used as cannon-fodder for jihads by the Wahhabi Arabs like Saudis and the emirs in Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Kuwait etc. Arabs will always consider themselves superior Muslims because that is what Islam is, an Arab supremacist, imperialist and totalitarian ideology.
I hope Pakistanis and Afghans, as being culturally closer to India will understand that they are being used by the Arabs (foremost) to do their dirty deeds, the Americans and Chinese only learned the thing from the Arabs, who were the original marauders in the land today called Afghanistan / Pakistan.
Dear COAS. Your words should be stronger than "the allegations are baseless". My 5 yr old nephew can say that in a stronger way.
@ Subhash, Ashok
Thanks for your sincere concerns to guide us. But why do you expect any better from us when you, yourself haven't learned any little till now.
Our media is strongly anti-army rule, makes efforts to expose corruption, so its definitely not us who are fed by media on this topic. Though we consider our media immature how they handle affairs, we grade them scholars when we watch your news media and cant differentiate between them and star plus.
Its hard, very hard to see realities in one's own society but blame others. Try making efforts to correct your society to improve poverty, religious freedom, military madness, media grooming and not interfering in others affairs. Pakistan was made to be there forever and it will be. your agenda is a failure. Insha Allah.
I dont know about you but if America DARES to attack Pakistan .. I am going to drop my books and pick up the AK 47
korea Vietnam Cuba Gulf Afghanistan Iraq
& the final nail in American coffin will be Pakistan ...
@Balochistan: u do not belong to balochistan , thats for sure
Little stinky Indians are like mosquitoes everywhere try to become machos which they are miles away.......Please tribune try to spray on forums atleast .....
@Subhash, India: Very aptly said by balochistan. But don't forget, India will have it when US tries to challenge the sovereignty of Pakistan. You must be happy that Pakistan will be consumed in a minute. But let me assure you one thing: Pakistan may be anything you think but we are neither Afghanistan nor Iraq and Proxies of America (TTP). The day the US enters the Arena, the entire world will be witness to something very different. Challenging Pakistani People and its Army will prove costly to US and its crony India. The war will lose its limits. So please don't make fun of Pakistan. The war will make fun of those who take Pakistan lightly.
Stand up for the right & you will find yourself invincible
Hindians, no matter what happens to us, we still reject what you stand for.
The Pak FM has been asked to return since Pakistan to discuss a serious ultimatum given by the US govt which has not been made public so far.
If Pakistanis follow true Sharia law, then nobody can touch us!
This is the time we should show our support to our Army by showing that we are also capable of making sacrifices for the sake of our beloved country. We should show that we are also proud of our sacrifices by not complaining whenever we lose our loves ones. After all, they are becoming shaheeds and not victims. Not everyone gets an opportunity to be a shaheed.
Soon, US might impose sanctions on us and it is possible that many of us will have no jobs. We should be prepared to live with long hours of power cuts. We should also be vigilant against the tricks of RAW agents who might trigger suicide bomb blasts to take advantage of the turmoil in the country. There might be shortage of petrol and other stuff due to stoppage of aid by US and their western friends, but we should be prepared for anything. Western powers might use this opportunity to fuel separatism in Balochistan and Sindh. But, we should be prepared to quell any riots ruthlessly. Some thousands might die, but we should tell human rights people we have to deal with iron hand to prevent our country from descending into chaos. We will eat grass but we will not succumb to pressure.
If all of us have this mindset, our Army and with the support of millions of Pakistanis, can one day bring peace back to Pakistan !!
@Organization of Pure Profit: Living on pure pipe dreams.
@Sheesh Valla Kabob minus Haleem Bhai: In affairs of state the gullible shall perish & so will the fools. And to me the Pak public seems to be fed on concoction of lies & bluster. Listen to logic to survive. My best wishes to all my friends across the border.
@Sheesh Valla Kabob minus Haleem Bhai: If it is true, then I back India. At least they will be independent like East Pakistan.
I being a PAK fully support USA stance and believe what they are saying is right. We need to decided between USA or HAQQANI
We are not anti Amerca, we all Pakistani are anti Pakistan. All Pakistanis loves american Dollors , Indian Rupees, Iranian Currency, Euro and any other currency whichever we can get without working. We are not even begger status. what we are i Dont know. I am proud to be a Pakistani but Pakistan has no proud on us.
Please think why it is hapenning and why we wasting Gfit of Allah " Pakistan :
History in the making!!!!. Stay tuned. ET is better than CNN.
@Sheesh Valla Kabob minus Haleem Bhai: and what about you.you are doing so much in kashmir.it's a healthy & wealthy game.
There is no terrorism in Pakistan, it is a created phenomena per policy and can be controlled within two to four weeks. All we need is to convince our military to clean its hands and be honest to convictions and change its policy towards protecting assets. Pakistan has never been important but our military and ignorant people have been fooled too long. At this time our biggest defense should be economic strength and not the military, China did it, India, Turkey, Brazil and such countries are doing it right now and no other country can dare to see them with bad intentions as easily. Archenemies like China vs. India, USA vs. Russia and China, China vs. Taiwan and so on all know the consequences of any military adventure but still our military does not, unbelievable.
Baluchistan guy is Indian fakie. Ignore such trolls.
I dont think Pakistan will fight in NW this will create Afghanistan like situation in Pakistan officially then. US raids are imminent inside our borders now. More drones and possible bombardment with ground incursions. Most Pakistan can do is to play neutral and let US take on Haqqani group themselves.
Military leadwership, nice.
@Balochistan and all indians
Statements like "Pakistan going down" gives you guys such a "pleasure" which even little 'blue pill' (that you need almost always, BTW) does not provide. Keep day dreaming, my friends. :-)
@Balochistan: The same way as Iran went down after standing up to USA! Don't be a coward. Unite and stand up against all odds to protect your motherland. If you have forgotten let me remind you what Tipu Sultan had to say in the face of adversity: "One day of Tigers life is better than a thousand days life of a Jackal."
Better late than never. Pakistan gave one more chance to US but its time to say goodbye..
USA is completely failed in afghanistan now in order to cover up their failure thet are blaming pakistan, they want to make pakistan a ESCAPGOAT,, lot of attacks have been made on pakistani terrtory from afghanistan for last few months and pakistan notified NATO but they do,nt care about this,,Pakistan is helping afghan peoples for last 25 years and more than 20 million AFGHAN peoples living in pakistan and pakistani peoples providing shelters and food then how cud pakistan help militants to attack on afghanistan,, AFGHAN PRESIDENT HAMEID KERZAHI is not elected president of afghan peoples ,he is only working for US amry and interets,, now Pakistani peoples think that US is not a trustable friend
@Karachi-Wala: they sent tons of flour sacks and dates packages which you sold in hyderabad markets ,,stop begging
Pakistan army is best in the world and the isi is ranked No.1, so wait a little and think twice b4 making any decision,, oh wait Pak have nukes as well... lol.. Pakistan Zindabad
stinky Indians always post anti Pakistan comments by hiding their names and nationality. losers
Problem is with us. Why cant we just abandon these terrorist for good ?? They have harmed and us and ll keep harming us .... our factions of society are turning into favor of terrorism due to GOP and PA not taking care of these terrorist .... Just get rid of terrorists and USA boths ... keep diplomatic relations with USA for good ("economy") :)
I stand by the army too, but please when will all these people realize that even if the war against the terrorists is won, the economic war has been lost.
The vast majority of problems plaguing Pakistan such as corruption, extremism is the result of weak economic fundamentals. I'm not saying there is no need for security, there the economy is more, yes I mean more important.
With a strong economy comes stability, engaged citizens (they will feel they have much to lose), and more to spend on security, and education (to enlighten our people and move them away from extermism).
My message here is simple, work on the economy. Get the power situation sorted out so that the GDP can recover and jobs be created and we become more independent as a nation.
Otherwise, truly God help Pakistan. We are headed to an abyss and what's pulling us there is a failing economy not the bombs going off in every corner of the country and the borders.
And there are microchip, semiconductor raw materials in Afghanistan's rugged terrain, Pakistan must keep that in mind, we have to access and excavate these raw materials from Afghanistan to support economic futures of our Pakistani generations. So the all out Pakistani Interest, and it's military aim should be to protect what we have, and gain a avenue into that rich mineral rich Afghanistan. That Economic Unit called Af-Pak Mineral and Mining Company will produce profit and support our Labour market, and Economic importance in a globally important Asia. Think Future, Think 50 years on. Right now, we will do what we have to do, we will punch you in the face with what we have. 180 million people don't give up that easy, 180 million are gonna get to 250 million in a decade or two. Just wait and see.
We need to to resolve the issue first among ourselves, army and government, then be strong to stand by our decisions and face the situation. We must talk on these issues with US and convince them. We must talk. We appreciate our army and have confidence in them.
if u guys dnt know the facts dnt speak foolish. go to records n check in floods saudi arabia gave the largest aid to pakistan.. dnt even know the facts n figures n speaiing like u r the only 1 who knows every thing. @Karachi-Wala:
Well done Chief............Lets call spade a spade...............
@Subhash, India: We very well know your involvement in Balochistan since the 50's so stop playing the innocent victim game.
@Karachi-Wala: What obligation does KSA or any other country have whereby you can point fingers & demand stuff? What have you been doing for over 60 years? BTW, not a big fan of KSA but seems lik e you need a reminder. People that do not stand up for their rights, have their rights taken away so when you sit back and watch your country being looted & you just sit there & re-elect the same people, you better stop complaining. As long as you take " others" as your patrons, there is no help from "Him" for you.
Time for us to stand together as a nation, readjust our priorities to reflect the well being and security of our people ' bite the bullet' and put country above self. It matters not if the political leadership of military leadership does this. It is the right thing to do.
@H.A. Khan: You do not know who is running the country. Sad.
Pakistan is in deep trouble. India hates us, Afghanistan is sick of us and America wants to destroy us.
We dont need to reply every provocation from US. They just want to make us isolate. Just logical replies may do a trick. Ok we are cutting off with haqanis but operation we are not able to do it as we are facing worst floods and terorist activities all over pakistan. But make sure u know ur enemy that is america.d terorist activities all over pakistan. But make sure u know ur enemy that is america.
@Balochistan: Very aptly said.
Ths meeting is the most important meeting this General ever chaired as COAS It is a make or break meeting, though people may find out gradually, but their quietness, communications and body language over the next fews day may reveal their decision. Hope they adhere to wise choice of reestablishing the trust and working out the differences. Its in the best interest of Pakistan, US, Region and the rest of the world.
well we did lal masjid, swat, khyber, miramshah, south waziristan, bajaur, kurram, orakzai, mohamnd operations for US. we gave them embassy extension, signed kerry lugar bill, gave them air basis of shamsi, jacobabad, provided them supply routes thru chaman n taurkham, let them establish CIA, blackwater, dyncorp network in pakistan, let them do OBL, blasts in markets, mosqs, schools, lost 35k civilians n 7k soldiers for them......
n yet we wont do north operation...... its a makeup.... how is it possible.... there was no red line and there is no red line .......... its all fake
@blochistan... Pakistan is not going down... INSHA ALLAH.... Pakistan isn't Iraq, Afghanistan .
Kayani is under lot of pressure from US to act against Haqqani group and break relations with it which would be a very difficult decision to take, since a mentor cannot dump its trainees of more than two decades back but now friends and future holy assets to be used against the arch enemy India.
WE STAND BY WITH OUR ARMY ... LONG LIVE PAKISTAN ...
=( He seems so sad. Maybe time to tie seatbelts, Pakistan's going down.
Why is the political leadership not showing urgency to discuss this serious issue?. Why is the National Assembly and Senate session not being summoned immediately?. NA session has been called on 3rd October 2011. I am seriously disappointed at the political leadership, especially the government.
A pragmatic approach has to be taken. Terrorism should be eliminated from this country.Country comes first...
we want deeds, not just words
