PESHAWAR: Extortionists targeted a house in the Sharifabad area of the Yakatot police station on Sunday, demanding money from its owner Afzal Khan.

A small improvised explosive device planted at the main gate of the house went off around midnight, sending a wave of panic across the city.

“The main gate was destroyed in the blast but there was no casualty reported in the attack,” a local police official told The Express Tribune. The house owner is a cloth merchant hailing from Mohmand Agency.

“It is another extortion case. Sharifabad is quite notorious for targeted killings as section officer Nawab Safi was also killed there and even the Intelligence Bureau inspector Osman Gul was gunned down in the same place,” he added.

Police registered an FIR against unidentified miscreants and started investigations into the case.
