KARACHI: Two suspected gangsters involved in various cases of crimes were killed during an exchange of fire with the police at Kalakot in Lyari on Friday night.

The encounter took place when the police conducted a raid on a tip-off about the presence of the gangsters, said police officials, adding that the gangsters attacked the police when they reached their hideout. The police fired back, killing two suspects during the exchange of fire.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Civil hospital for autopsies, where they were identified as Qari Qasim and Saddam Baloch. The men belonged to Baba Ladla group based in Lyari, said the police, adding that they were involved in bomb blasts and more than 30 cases of murders. The police also claimed to have recovered a rocket launcher and arms and ammunitions from their possession. Separately, 28 suspects were apprehended during targeted operations in Memon Goth and Ghazi Goth in Malir. Ten suspects were taken into custody from Memon Goth, while 18 were arrested from Ghazi Goth.

Similarly, 20 more suspects were taken into custody during an overnight targeted raid at Ittehad Town in Baldia Town. A contingent of police and commandos from the Rapid Response Force also participated in the operation. The suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
