KARACHI: The mother of a man who was allegedly beaten to death by his childhood friends over a monetary dispute failed to identify a suspect in court on Wednesday.

Shahnaz Begum, mother of Farhan Ali, could not pick out Faizan as the murderer during an identification parade before an District East judicial magistrate at the City courts.

Farhan was allegedly beaten to death by his friends Fayyaz, Farooq, Arshad, Uzair, Sagheer and Adeel at his house in Alfalah Society on July 27. His elderly mother is said to have witnessed the entire incident.

Meanwhile, police booked another man, Faizan, in the case. He, however, claimed during interrogation that though he went to the victim's house on the night of the incident, he did not torture him.

On Wednesday, when the judge asked the victim's mother to depose if she had seen the arrested suspect torturing her son, she could not. The suspect was presented before her, along with nearly a dozen dummy suspects. The procedure was repeated thrice but she could not pick the suspect each time.
