LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a special cabinet meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation in Indian occupied Kashmir at Punjab Governor’s House on Friday.

The government will discuss its strategy in wake of Indian oppression in the occupied valley, Officials of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) told The Express Tribune.

The PM’s office, in a statement, said the meeting will discuss the “rapidly deteriorating situation in Indian occupied Kashmir”.

“The cabinet will discuss the oppressive actions of the Indian security forces against innocent civilians and overall situation in Kashmir after brutal assassination of Burhan Wani."

The Foreign Office on Monday summoned Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale and conveyed strong concerns on rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in the occupied territory.

In addition, a detailed briefing was also given to ambassadors of all permanent members of UN Security Council regarding atrocities of Indian security forces in held Kashmir.

The prime minister is expected to take the cabinet into confidence on these measures and also chalk out future course of action on this issue.

Clashes broke out in the occupied valley after the killing of Burhan Wani, a 22-year-old commander of Kashmir’s largest militant group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) on Friday, during a gun battle with the government forces. The clashes have so far left at least 30 Kashmiris dead and over 300 wounded.
