Economic progress linked with peace in Karachi, says army chief

Expressing satisfaction over success of law enforcement agencies in the continuing operation against criminal elements in the city, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said country's economic progress is linked with peace in Karachi.

“A terror free and peaceful Karachi is the ultimate aim of this operation and all efforts must be directed with a focused approach to achieve this objective,” the army chief said during his visit to the country's economic hub on Wednesday.

According to the ISPR, the COAS chaired a security meeting at Corps Headquarters.

The army chief also appreciated the people of Karachi who supported the security forces unflinchingly for their efforts in the surgical operation.

General Raheel was briefed in detail about the Karachi operation and its success so far before the high-level meeting, which was attended by DG ISI, DG MI and Rangers, among others.

Earlier during the day, the COAS addressed the faculty, participants and allied forces of Air War Course, and spoke on the regional security environment and the army’s fight against the menace of terrorism.

General Raheel also resolved to take the fight to its logical end, and lauded the efforts of Pakistan Air Force’s role in support of army in operation Zarb-e-Azb.
