RAWALPINDI:

The Rawat police on Saturday booked a man for allegedly attempting to rape a nine-year-old girl.

The suspect, identified as Zubair, a resident of Rawat, attempted to rape his neighbour’s daughter in a room of his house.

The accused has been on the run after the police have registered a case against him on a complaint of the girl’s father.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Saddar Circle Sajid Gondal, the girl, whose name was not disclosed, went to the house of her teacher, where Zubair, who happened to be the teacher’s brother, caught her and dragged her into a room and attempted to rape her.

The alleged suspect, however, let the girl go after she cried, while he fled the house.

The DSP said that the girl was a fourth grader and was taking tuition from the accused’s sister. The police official said that efforts were under way to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Rawat police apprehended a couple for their alleged involvement in kidnapping a child and releasing him after taking ransom.

Gondal said that the couple had released the child after receiving Rs400,000 as ransom. The alleged kidnappers would be produced before a court on Monday.
