LAHORE:

A Supreme Court bench on Thursday dismissed the bail petition of a woman accused of kidnapping girls from the Punjab and selling them to brothels in Sindh.

The petitioner told the court that she had been wrongfully implicated the case.

A prosecutor told the court the woman had helped in the kidnapping of two girls, one of whom had escaped from the brothel she was sold to. The prosecutor said the girl had appeared before a magistrate and recorded her statement. He said the girl had told the magistrate that she had been sold for Rs200,000 and had been raped numerous times at the brothel.

After hearing both sides, a two-judge bench headed by Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary dismissed the petition.

Separately, the SC dismissed the bail petition of a suspected drug pusher.

The petitioner said that he was a shopkeeper and had not been involved in the drug trade.  He said that police had wrongly implicated him in the case. A prosecutor told the bench that police arrested him after they had recovered 2,000 grams hashish from him. The prosecutor produced police record in this regard before the court. After checking the police record, the bench dismissed the bail petition. In another case, the SC dismissed bail petitions of seven people accused of electricity theft. Prosecution said the Gujranwala SDO had raided several places in Pindi Bhattian and had found the accused stealing electricity.

Counsel for the accused said his clients did not steal electricity and had been arrested under pressure from their rivals.
