SHABQADAR/JAMRUD:
A security official was killed while two others were wounded as militants attacked Al-Ghazi check post situated along Durand Line in Mohmand Agency on Thursday.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, an official of the political administration confirmed the incident, saying over a dozen militants attacked the check post at Sheikh Baba, Safi tehsil near the Pak-Afghan border.
“The security forces retaliated, killing four militants and injuring five others,” he said. “The shootout lasted for nearly two hours, after which the injured militants managed to escape.”
The injured security officials were airlifted to a hospital in Peshawar for treatment.
Soon after the attack, a search operation was launched in the area. However, no arrests have been made. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Under fire
Meanwhile, two khasadar officials were killed in separate incidents in Jamrud.
Insiders told The Express Tribune a khasadar official, who had gone missing five days ago, was found dead in Maidanak Lashora area of Jamrud tehsil on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Hisab Khan. His body was shifted to the hospital.
In another incident, unidentified armed men allegedly opened fire on Amir Khan, a khasadar official, in Tedi area of Jamrud tehsil. The assailants managed to escape after the incident. The injured was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Taking notice of the incidents, Khyber Agency Political Agent Shahab Ali Shah ordered the transfer of Line Officer Haji Tehseenullah Afridi for responding negligently to the incident.
Haji Ibrahim Khan has been appointed in his place. Meanwhile, security officials carried out a search operation in the area and arrested several suspects in connection with the killings.
